Basswood is a light, soft wood which is easily worked and very stable. Basswood has white softwood, and light reddish brown heartwood. It has a closed, indistinct grain pattern. Basswood grows throughout the Northeastern USA. It represents 5-8% of the volume of timber in lumber production.
